Forbes top 200 residential architects

Thank you Forbes for including Bestor Architecture in your top 200 list!

From Forbes: “Bestor Architecture is a mid-size Los Angeles firm known for designing animated contemporary homes that are imbued with color and a funky, retro sensibility. Founder Barbara Bestor clearly enjoys her work: her houses appear to hover in the air, peer over walls and step down hillsides—as in their Featured Project, an L.A. house that takes advantage of the view without obstructing sightlines from its historic uphill neighbor. The house was also designed to withstand fires, thanks to its concrete base, metal trusses and expendable fire-resistant roofing membrane. The pool could also serve as a handy water source in the event of a blaze.”

“Wright’s influence is obvious, but Jackson had his own distinct interpretation of organic modernism,” notes LA-based architect Barbara Bestor, who recently completed an exhaustive restoration and expansion of a phenomenal house originally authored by Jackson in 1953 and enlarged by the architect in phases over the following decades. “He had very specific ideas about how houses grow and evolve. Many of the ad hoc additions were improvised with materials that were less than ideal. When my client acquired the property, it was basically a modern ruin,” Bestor continues.
