Set on a promontory in San Fernando Valley, this addition and remodel of a classic ranchburger elevates the roof while retaining the vernacular elements. The result is a dramatic opening of the house to light and space without adjusting the original house’s footprint. The postcard view of the city is now the focus of the interior, blurring the demarcation of indoor and outdoor with modernist grace.
